diy: mugs!

Taking a quick break from renovation updates to share another side passion of mine: diy projects :)

This fits somewhere in the world of renovations and design, as my diy projects tend to be sparked by images I see on Pinterest that make me want to replicate some beauty or theme or ambiance in my own home.

In this case, I was inspired by five things:

  1. A delightfully adorable image on pinterest
  2. My weakness for simple black, white, and grey designs
  3. My love of tea
  4. A seemingly quick, easy, and cheap project
  5. My current smorgasbord of mugs (amassed over the past 15 years, that nostalgically represents each phase of my adult life, but matches not at all the beautiful new kitchen). See below.

Since I'm a bit of a sap, it's unlikely you'll be seeing any of these mugs on a table at the next neighborhood yard sale, but I'm ready to push them to the back of the cabinet and stock some shiny new models in the front.

Here's my "delightfully adorable" inspiration:

The instructions (courtesy of http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com) seem pretty straightforward: get ceramic mugs, get sharpie markers, draw your design, bake your mugs for 30 minutes at 350 degrees, and presto!

So I got my mugs here (6 mugs for $29.95), and I got my sharpie here (twin tip, fine and ultra fine). I also collected some extra inspiration here and here.

Stay tuned for a recap of how this little diy adventure actually goes. I'll post an update soon with some before, during, and after pictures, along with any tips or tricks I learn. Any guesses on how well (or not!) these will turn out??
